With its rich equine history, many of the best known products like tobacco, bourbon and horse racing seem to imply that Lexington is a wild west sort of town with little culture, however the opposite is true. During the early 1900’s the Lexington economy expanded and business and housing development quickly grew. Lexington became the second largest city in the state with Louisville the only city larger. This growth attracted many manufacturers to the area and transportation became an important business for Lexington.
